Ghostbusters Live-Read Snags Rogen, Black and Wilson

Who you gonna call? Apparently, Seth Rogen, Jack Black and Rainn Wilson!

Tomorrow night, Film Independent LACMA and filmmaker Jason Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air) will host a one-night-only live-read of the original Ghostbusters script. While Reitman has staged numerous live-reads in the past, this will be the first event centered around the work of his father, Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman.

"It was a part of my life growing up. I just thought it would be fun," the younger Reitman told The Hollywood Reporter. "I understand the energy around that film. To me it's similar to The Princess Bride live-read we did last year. People have a relationship with the film that goes beyond normal movies."

As for the casting, Reitman knew he had pretty big shoes to fill in replacing Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. But the director feels confident he made the right choices:

Seth Rogen as Peter Venkman "It's the most crucial and tricky piece of casting. I knew we needed an actor whose rhythms were equally unique to Bill Murray’s and had that kind of a swagger."

Jack Black as Ray Stantz "When you think about Dan Aykroyd as Ray Stantz, you think about this positive enthusiasm and energy. No one has that like Jack Black."

Rainn Wilson as Egon Spengler "As originated by Harold Ramis, this part needs someone with an earnest, scientific mind and clear-cut decisive humor."

In addition to Rogen, Black and Wilson, Reitman has also brought in Phil LaMarr as Winston Zeddmore, Kristen Bell as Dana Barrett, Kevin Pollak as Walter Peck, Mae Whitman as Ghostbuster receptionist Janine Melnitz, as well as Paul Rust and Paul Scheer to round out the cast.

Tickets for the monthly live-reads sell out fast, but there is usually a wait-list outside for the lucky few able to get inside. For more info, check out the LACMA website.
