Valve Buys Studio Run by Ex-Plants vs Zombies Devs

Valve has acquired Star Filled Studios. Based in San Francisco, Star Filled is run by Jeff Gates and Tod Semple, two former PopCap developers. In addition to both working on Plants vs. Zombies, Semple previously worked on Diablo III and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, while Gates worked on Spore.

“The guys who did PvZ, down in the Bay Area. We’re helping them set up a Valve subsidiary there,” Valve co-founder Gabe Newell told Edge, confirming the news.

Star Filled was founded back in September after Gates and Semple were let go from PopCap in a round of layoffs in August.

No projects for the new studio have been announced, and it’s currently unknown whether it will still be called Star Filled Studios or if it will officially become Valve San Francisco.
