Morrigan Isn't in Your Dragon Age: Inquisition Party

BioWare has confirmed that Morrigan will not join your party in Dragon Age: Inquisiton, though she does have a pivotal role to play in the plot.

In an interview with Game Informer, Dragon Age's creative director Mike Laidlaw explained that the Witch of the Wilds wouldn't be reprising her role as a companion from Origins, and the team was keen not to mislead people on this front.

"I think it is fair for people to understand that [Morrigan] will not be a party member," he said. "That’s going to disappoint some people, but I think it’s important for us to be upfront about that."

I think it is fair for people to understand that [Morrigan] will not be a party member.

This doesn't mean she won't be prominently featured in the game, however. Writer David Gaider was quick to add that Morrigan wouldn't just feature as a "cameo", and would instead play "a significant role." Quite what this role may be remains to be seen.

"[Morrigan] has a human role in this plot," said Gaider, "which may surprise some people because they might only think of her as a plot device. She has this big plot she's involved in, and while that's true to an extent, I'm taking her to a human place. That will make sense after the fact."

The last time fans actually saw Morrigan was in Dragon Age: Origins as she never appeared in the follow-up game, despite being referenced several times. Gaider also assured players that their interactions with Morrigan back in the day, such as whether they romanced her or not, would "play a role of varying degrees" in interactions with her in Inquisition.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is due out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC sometime in autumn 2014.
