Warner Bros Confirms Mortal Kombat Movie Reboot

Warner Bros. has revealed some new details about the Mortal Kombat movie reboot, suggesting that the new adaptation is already in production.

According to WorstPreviews, Warner Bros executive Lance Sloan confirmed that the film was being developed, as well as its director and budget.

“

The series he's referring to is Mortal Kombat: Legacy, which debuted on YouTube in April 2011. Aside from this, Tancharoen's other directorial efforts include the remake of Fame, Glee: The 3D Concert Movie and The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll. Sooo....yeah. Fingers crossed that he draws on resources from Legacy rather than his earlier batch of work when making the movie?

In terms of the proposed plot for the reboot, nothing has been confirmed, but rumours are swirling it'll follow a supermarket employee who discovers he has otherworldly powers and must make the ultimate choice between fighting for the side of good or evil.

The original Mortal Kombat film appeared in 1995 and was directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. This in turn spawned a sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation in 1997, which performed poorly at the box office in comparison to its predecessor. As a result a planned third film, Mortal Kombat: Devastation, was shelved indefinitely until Warner Bros. picked up the rights to Midway's assets in 2009 following the game studio going bankrupt.

Will Nicolas Cage Get Left Behind?

Oscar winner Nicolas Cage is currently in talks to star in the Left Behind reboot, based on the best-selling books and movie series about the biblical end of days.

The writer and producer of the original films, Paul Lalonde, and John Patus, who worked on the novel series' final entry Left Behind: World at War, have collaborated on a screenplay and are hoping to turn it into a feature film with an estimated $15 million budget, says The Hollywood Reporter. Legendary stunt man Vic Armstrong will direct.

The original films, which launched in 2001, starred Kirk Cameron as Buck Williams, a television journalist who is left behind alongside many others after the dawn of Armageddon.

The Amazing Spider-Man's Origin Behind the Origin

Just a heads-up: HUGE SPOILERS from Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man to follow.

While Sony's Spidey reboot was met with mixed-to-positive reviews, there's no denying that the film left a few dangling threads. However, it seems that a big chunk of footage was cut from the final film that would have allegedly altered the origins of Spider-Man.

Although Webb has since denied that he had plans to tinker the comic book backstory, a new deleted scene involving Peter, the Lizard and Oscorp henchman Mr. Ratha hints that it may have been Peter's father who provided the source of Spider-Man's powers.

The Amazing Spider-Man hits Blu-ray and DVD shelves November 9.

RoboCop, Elysium Release Dates Changed

Sony has moved the release dates of their two big, upcoming sci-fi movies. The RoboCop reboot has been moved from August 9, 2013 to February 7, 2014, where it opens against DreamWorks' adaptation of the EA video game Need for Speed and Warners' Lego Movie.

Meanwhile, Sony has also moved Elysium, director Neill Blomkamp's follow-up to District 9, from March 1, 2013 to RoboCop's original August 9 slot.

The Sony Pictures Animation sequel Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers will now open on September 27, 2013, where it will be pitted against the Stallone-Schwarzenegger action flick The Tomb as well as Runner Runner.

Sony and Adam Sandler's video game-themed Pixels has also been bumped from its original May 17, 2013 date to "TBD" status.

Ben Affleck Turned Down Daredevil Reboot

Ben Affleck has revealed that he turned down the chance to reprise his role as blind superhero Daredevil in a franchise reboot.

Speaking to MTV, Affleck admitted that he had been approached to star in a new version of the much-maligned 2003 film, but couldn't see how it would make sense.

"They're rebooting it," he explained. "I got contacted about it, and I was like, 'That wouldn't be a reboot [if I was involved],' but I really hope they do a good job, because that's a great property and deserves something really, really good."

He didn't rule out donning spandex again in the future though, admitting, "I would love to do [a comic book movie] if it was the right one, if I thought I could do it well. I think you have to, with any movie, have an idea for it that's original and unique and committed to it, and that's a hard thing to find."

The current status of the Daredevil reboot is pretty murky. While Joe Carnahan was originally down to direct the project for Fox, there's a major hurdle to overcome in the shape of the film's rights returning to Marvel as of October 10. Whether the company will decide to pursue its own reboot once the property returns to its stables remains to be seen.

Affleck also revealed that he definitely won't be directing the forthcoming Justice League of America movie, saying of his wrongly rumoured involvement "I guess I should be flattered, and I'm sure it will be cool. I've seen some of the stuff from the new Superman movie, and that stuff is awesome."

Underworld Director Reboots The Mummy

Len Wiseman, he of Total Recall reboot and Underworld franchise fame, is in talks to direct Universal's reboot of The Mummy. Or re-reboot, one might say.

We learned last April that Jon Spaihts -- who also handled the first draft of Prometheus -- was scripting the film. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers) are producing with Sean Daniels and Jim Jacks, the producers of Universal's Mummy series with Brendan Fraser that began in 1999.

Not much is known about Spaihts' script, though it is said to be set in the modern era. "I think the sensibility and the cutting edge of Underworld is a fantastic meld for what we want to do going forward with The Mummy,” Daniels told Heat Vision. “We are going to push the edge of scary entertainment.”

Boris Karloff, of course, starred in the original The Mummy in 1932. That film spawned a successful franchise in and of itself, which eventually culminated in a run-in with Abbott and Costello. Watch:

RoboCop Script Gets a Second Opinion

Okay, so the initial word on Jose Padilha's script for the RoboCop reboot wasn't exactly a glowing recommendation, right? Well, it seems as though CBM, via a SHH user, has let slip a few new story details that might turn you back around on the project.

According to the site's source, the film has a very similar feel to Neill Blomkamp's District 9; while RoboCop is initially human in nature, he slowly begins to lose himself and slowly becomes a less emotional, machine-like entity.

Below is a SPOILERIFIC description that helps better explain the RoboCop technology, including the bizarre Transformer element (beware of messageboard spelling and grammar standards):

"He moves quick. At first as Robo 1.0 he is somewhat slow. But he does move fast, he can run up to 30MPH and catch bad guys pretty quick.

"Other things, that I love is just the whole integration of wi-fi and how he is connected to everything. This is truly Robocop remade for the modern world, not the 80's.

"I have said before I love the virtual evidence world he creates and re-creates a crime as it happens. I love how he is connected to every camera in the city and they are everywhere.

"There is also a motorcycle that is made specifically for him, it sounds pretty cool, it connects to him in a way. So he mainly drives his Cruiser motorcycle thing.

"And people should not worry about the Transformers aspect, all that changes is the appearance of the texture of his armor and helmet, nothing more. He has a visor but it is more see through.

"Yea the armor just changes to different textures/slight bulkiness. But it makes it sound like in the script in many scenes that it transforms very very quickly. No body changing or arms becoming something else kind of stuff.

"He starts out more human, but OCP starts to mess with him and take away his emotions and he becomes very cold like the Robocop we know."

"The story does resolve around that they need Murphy he is the perfect candidate but they know he won't agree to it. So they hire bad guys to pretty much knock him out and 'surgically' blow him away so they can get program under way. And also make Murphy's wife think that it is the only way to save Alex is to do this program and he will still be the man she loves. But lets say the company really back stabs that and then some. They just want a cold robot that does what it's told but give the appearance to the press and public that he can have emotions. They set up the whole family wanting him back thing to give it a good clean image. But in reality the company is being horrible about it.

"One emotional part that turns him more to a machine (which is what the company and Norton wanted) was when they showed Murphy what was left of 'him' they strip all his mechanical stuff and it is just some of his organs part of his head and a part of his brain. A pretty sad scene, especially when they make Murphy's wife look at it, to get her to run away from wanting to still be with Alex."

First Look at Chris Pine's Jack Ryan

Paramount has released the first two photos from Jack Ryan, the studio's reboot of the Tom Clancy CIA hero that just began filming in Manhattan under the direction of Thor's Kenneth Branagh. Chris Pine plays the title character and Kevin Costner plays his field agent mentor.

Rebooted Batman to Debut in Justice League Movie?

Rumor has it that the live-action Justice League of America movie will also ostensibly serve as the reboot of Batman on the big screen.

Batman-on-Film reports that a "solid as they come" source tells them the Batman "reboot will come after the JL film, not before. Therefore, the new cinematic Batman will be introduced in the JL film as opposed to a solo film. This would ... assure the new Batman film series will be part of a 'DC Cinematic Universe.'"

The site cautions, however, that while their source is legit, they still advise readers to take the rumor "with a grain of salt" for now.

Next summer's Man of Steel is expected to be the final DC Comics movie until at least 2015, when scuttlebutt suggests the JLA film will be released.

JLA is being scripted by Will Beall. No director is currently involved, although recent reports claims the Wachowskis are high up on Warner Bros.' wish list to helm it.

Devil May Cry Box Art, Pre-Order Bonus Revealed

Capcom has revealed the box art for Ninja Theory’s upcoming Devil May Cry reboot. In a post on the Capcom Unity blog, senior community manager Chris Antista showed off the art for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.

In addition, Antista revealed that customers who pre-order from Amazon will receive a Bone Pack that will “transform Dante’s shotgun, scythe and axe into precision crafted bone weapons.”

Amazon will also offer the Orb Harvester which allows players to “collect hoards of extra red orbs” to “upgrade and enhance Dante’s weapons and combo perks faster.” Amazon says that anyone who pre-orders will be eligible and that codes will be emailed to customers within two days of the game being shipped.

Devil May Cry will hit Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on January 15th. A PC version is “well underway and scheduled for release later in 2013,” according to Capcom.

Knightley, Lilly, Jones Up for Jack Ryan Female Lead

Paramount is now on the search for a new female lead to star opposite Chris Pine in the Kenneth Branagh-directed Jack Ryan reboot.

Deadline reports that the current frontrunner is Keira Knightley, with Lost's Evangeline Lilly and Like Crazy's Felicity Jones still on the short list. The role was initially offered to Total Recall co-stars Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Beil, but both women passed on the project. Rumor has it that the gig could culminate in a three-picture deal.

The Jack Ryan reboot stars Pine in the title role alongside Branagh, who will also play the film's villain.

Webb May Not Return for Amazing Spider-Man 2

Director Marc Webb may want to helm the sequel to his hit reboot The Amazing Spider-Man, but he might not be able to due to a preexisting contractual obligation.

In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Columbia Pictures honcho Doug Belgrad said, "We'd really like him back, but there are obstacles. He has an obligation to Fox." Webb reportedly owes Fox another film following his hit rom com (500) Days of Summer.

Belgrad also conceded one of the problems with the film during the interview. "The section where Rhys Ifans' character turns irrevocably into the Lizard," said Belgrad. "It took several months to figure out, and the filmmakers cut a bunch of scenes. In software parlance, it required a patch."

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is slated for release May 2, 2014.
