Netflix Announces Premiere Date for David Fincher and Kevin Spacey's House of Cards

Netflix has announced the premiere date for their new original drama series, House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. From director David Fincher and screenwriters Beau Willimon and Eric Roth, the project is based on the BBC series of the same name and explores the back halls of greed, sex, love and corruption in modern Washington D.C.

Here's the official plot synopsis: "An uncompromising exploration of power, ambition and the American way, the series orbits Francis Underwood (Spacey), the House Majority Whip. Underwood is the politician’s politician -- masterful, beguiling, charismatic and ruthless. He and his equally ambitious wife Claire (Wright) stop at nothing to ensure their ascendancy." Fincher directed the first two episodes, which were penned by Willimon.

All 13 episodes of House of Cards will be available to watch instantly for Netflix members starting February 1, 2013. Additionally, production for Season 2 is set to begin in spring 2013.

Fincher, who is one of the executive producers alongside Space, directed the first two episodes of House of Lies. James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross), Joel Schumacher (Batman Forever), Charles McDougall (The Good Wife), Carl Franklin (Devil in a Blue Dress) and Alan Coulter (The Sopranos) also serve as directors on subsequent episodes.
