EA: Dead Space Sequels Still Possible

EA says future Dead Space sequels could still happen. In an interview with IGN at E3, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau explained that he still believes in a potential future for the franchise.

The Visceral guys have done a great job with it. There’s no reason to believe we wouldn’t visit it again.

“Yeah, that’s an intellectual property that we’ve proven that there’s an audience for,” Gibeau told IGN. “It grew from each version to the next. It launched at the very tail end of the gen 3 cycle, and if you look at games across the whole industry, whether it was Tomb Raider or BioShock Infinite or Dead Space, there were a lot of critically acclaimed games at the time. But the overall market was fairly fatigued at that point in terms of sales.”

“While we’re very pleased with the quality and the direction it’s going, we have no announcements right now for further Dead Space,” Gibeau continued. “But it’s an IP we love and the Visceral guys have done a great job with it. There’s no reason to believe we wouldn’t visit it again.”

As for Dead Space developer Visceral -- who we know is working on a Star Wars game -- Gibeau wouldn’t comment on what else the studio has in the works, simply telling us “we’ll have announcements on what’s Visceral’s got next in the near future.”

The last entry in the Dead Space franchise, Dead Space 3, launched on February 5th and despite topping U.S. sales charts, EA said in the May that the title “came in below our forecast.”
