The Pixar prequel Monsters University dethroned Man of Steel as the king of the domestic box office this weekend. Monsters U bowed with $82 million, making it Pixar's second-biggest opening ever behind Toy Story 3's $110.3 million debut in 2010. Monsters U made another $54.5 million abroad.
Meanwhile, the Superman reboot dropped to third place with $41.2 million. But fret not, fanboys, Man of Steel is a huge hit. Still No. 1 at the worldwide box office, Man of Steel's global cume currently stands at just under $400 million after only 11 days in release.
Brad Pitt scored his biggest opening weekend ever with World War Z, which debuted in second place with $66 million. It made another $45.8 million overseas.
