Roland Emmerich has revealed that Will Smith, who starred in the original Independence Day, will not be returning for the upcoming sequel.
Speaking to NY Daily News, the director confirmed that Smith wouldn't return as he'd need too much money, as well as being too big a name.
"Will Smith can not come back because he's too expensive, but he'd also be too much of a marquee name," he said. "It would be too much.
"We have like maybe half of the people that you know would know from the first film (in the script) and the other half people who are new."
It was announced last week that the sequel to the 1996 hit has a planned release date of July 3, 2015, 19 years after the original exploded into cinemas. There's still no official word on whether Bill Pullman will be back or not.
What do you reckon? Are you saddened to hear Smith won't be coming back? Be sure to let us know which actors you'd like to see return in the comments below.
