HTC is reportedly betting some big cash on the man behind the Iron Man mask. According to Bloomberg, the actor is signing a deal to work as a spokesman for HTC, raking in a cool $12 million to appear in the upcoming ad campaign. Downey will appear as himself in the commercials, not as one of his film characters.
Granted, one has to think the idea of Iron Man selling the HTC One, with its all-metal body, makes a little sense. Despite generally positive reviews for its latest smartphone, HTC is still struggling to compete in the Samsung-dominated global market. With any luck, a reinvigorated ad campaign could give HTC the boost it needs.
Robert Downey Jr. is having a great week. The actor has just signed on for appearances in the next two Avengers movies. He received $50 million for the first Avengers film.
