Darren Aronofsky to Adapt Red Sparrow?

With his biblical epic Noah now wrapped, director Darren Aronofsky is on the lookout for another project. Now it seems the filmmaker may be in early talks to adapt Red Sparrow, an espionage tale based on the Jason Matthews novel.

According to Deadline, 20th Century Fox bought the rights to the film in a seven-figure deal for Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch to produce with Chernin Entertainment. The book was published earlier this summer.

Set in contemporary Russia, the story centers on a state intelligence officer, Dominika Egorova, who is ordered against her will to become a "Sparrow," a trained seductress, and operate against CIA officer Nathaniel Nash who handles the Agency's most important Russian mole.
