First Steam Software Titles Available Now

Valve has released the first software apps on Steam. As Valve announced in August, it’s moving Steam beyond gaming by offering various productivity apps, “marking a major expansion to the platform."

The first six non-gaming software titles are:

  • ArtRage Studio Pro
  • CameraBag 2
  • GameMaker: Studio
  • 3D-Coat
  • 3DMark Vantage
  • 3DMark 11

The titles will be 10% off this week to celebrate the launch, and many of Steam’s software titles take advantage of Steamworks features including automatic updating and saving work to the Steam Cloud. GameMaker Studio offers Steam Workshop support, allowing users to share their work via Steam.

The titles join Source Filmmaker, which Valve released in July to allow players to make their own short films. For a list of more software titles as they’re released, keep an eye on Steam’s Software section. Software continues Valve’s recent efforts to expand Steam, including Steam Greenlight, Big Picture Mode, a beta on Linux and, of course, plans to develop hardware.
