The Hobbit Joins the $1 Billion Club

Warner Bros.' The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is the latest motion picture to surpass $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Peter Jackson's fantasy film has thus far earned $301.4 million domestically, but its recent release in China is what put it over the top. The pic made an additional $37.3 million in just 10 days, bringing total international sales to about $700 million.

Said Warners' President of International Distribution Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, "From Berlin to Beijing, it is so gratifying to see how the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has been such an event with audiences around the world. We know that moviegoers everywhere are already excited about the next film, as are we."

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is the fifteenth feature film in history to exceed $1 billion worldwide.
