Microsoft Debuts New Sculpt Mice with Windows 8 Start Buttons

Microsoft is launching a couple of new Sculpt mice in the next month. And while neither device will reinvent the wheel, so to speak, both mice will feature a dedicated Windows Start button, reports Paul Thurrott. The blue touch tab on the side of the mouse also functions as a touch-sensitive strip, capable of launching the Switcher function in Windows 8. Swiping up cycles through open apps.

Beyond the inclusion of the Windows 8 tab, the new mice function similar to previous iterations of the Sculp line. A simple four-way scroll is the only other discernible feature. Start buttons have become somewhat ubiquitous across Microsoft hardware, including modern keyboards, tablets, and notebooks. Presumably, the touch tab is a way for Windows 8 users to find simpler touch functionality on more dated hardware.

The Sculpt Comfort Mouse uses Bluetoth connectivity and will ship soon for $39.95. A portable version, the Sculpt Mobile Mouse, will launch sometime in June for $29.95. The latter requires the use of a USB dongle.
