Avalanche Studios founder and chief creative officer Christofer Sundberg believes the largely negative reaction to Microsoft’s Xbox One reveal last week relates to the lack of focus on actual games rather than in the console itself.
“I understand the disappointment of many fans,” said Sundberg in an interview with VideoGamer. “But I am confident their disappointment is in the lack of focus on games during the reveal, rather than in the console. I hope that Microsoft will turn that around during E3.”
Sundberg feels that without spotlighting the Xbox One’s cross-media entertainment capabilities during the event Microsoft would have “quickly lost the attention from mainstream media.”
Sundberg also confirmed that the Avalanche team has been “working with the Xbox One for quite some time.”
Microsoft has been weathering severe criticism from gamers since the Xbox One reveal. A focus on the Xbox One’s TV functionality over games, plus frustration around Microsoft’s still-unclear policies on used-software support and the online requirements of the console, has put the Xbox One under intense scrutiny heading into E3.
Last week an IGN UK poll revealed more than 75% of the 76,000 people who voted were disappointed with Xbox One reveal.
