John C. Reilly Rumored for Guardians of the Galaxy Role

Wreck-It Ralph and Step Brothers star John C. Reilly is rumored to be up for a big supporting role in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

HitFix says Reilly has been offered the role of Rhomann Dey and "if he comes aboard, it's a big commitment. Basically, he's been designed as the Agent Coulson of the Guardians movies. He's the human agent who serves as a go-between, keeping the Guardians in line and reporting to SHIELD about their activities."

HitFix adds that Dey will "have a peer, someone who is their liaison for the Guardians, and Marvel is looking at names as disparate as Hugh Laurie, Alan Rickman, and Ken Watanabe for that part."

Astute Marvel fans will recognize "Rhomann Dey" as the true name of Nova Prime, the leader of the Nova Corps of Xandar. He was also a member of the Champions (pictured above, Nova is second from left).

Clearly, the character's been reworked for director James Gunn's upcoming film, which begins production soon in England.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1, 2014.
