What's Coming to TV: Our Roundup of The Week's Big Announcements

We're coming out of what was a huge week in TV, as the broadcast networks all announced their fall schedules, and the new series they've ordered in the process, at the Upfronts. But new series means that shows that were on the schedule need to go, which means we also got our last round of cancellations as well. There was a lot to process, so here's the rundown on each network, with links to learn more about what's to come.

NBC

On the heels of 30 Rock and The Office ending long, successful runs, NBC gutted their current comedy slate, canceling Go On and every other current comedy series, including Whitney, with two exceptions. Besides Parks and Recreation, NBC gave a very last minute renewal to Community, as the cult comedy once more bucked the odds. Though the Community news also came with the reveal that the show has no set time to return as yet, being held for some point midseason.

NBC's many new series orders include Believe, from J.J. Abrams and acclaimed filmmaker Alfonso Cauron, and The Michael J. Fox Show, as the beloved comedic actor returns to TV.

FOX

While FOX ordered some notable new series, including J.J. Abrams and J.H. Wyman's Almost Human and Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman's Sleepy Hollow, the biggest news from the network was about a show that has been off the air for three years. Yes, Jack Bauer's legion of fans were quite excited to hear that 24 is returning with new episodes next year, for a summer run.

ABC

It wasn't shocking, but still sad for us fans to see ABC cancel Happy Endings. That wasn't all though, as the network pulled the plug on several more shows as well, while ordering a dozen new series.

Or course, the most notable new series coming to ABC is arguably the biggest new series on any network this fall: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as ABC finally gave the greenlight to Marvel's first TV tie-in to their shared cinematic universe.

CBS

The number one network, CBS doesn't make a ton of changes to its schedule each fall, making those they do stand out more. As you'll see in the schedule below, CBS is aggressively attacking Thursdays, building their comedy lineup into a two-hour block. While CBS did cancel a couple of freshman under-performers and also ended the long-running CSI: New York and Rules of Engagement, what really stood out though was them passing on ordering Beverly Hills Cop to series, despite the involvement of Shawn Ryan and Eddie Murphy.

Still, CBS won't be lacking for notable stars in the fall, boasting Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar in David E. Kelley's The Crazy Ones and new shows starring the likes of Will Arnett and Anna Faris.

The CW

Nikita fans were worried, as once more, a renewal decision came down to the wire. But The CW did bring the show back - albeit for a six-episode, final season. Meanwhile, CW's new series orders include a lot of sci-fi/fantasy concepts, including The Tomorrow People, The 100 and The Vampire Diaries' spinoff, The Originals.
