Tom Cruise Exits The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Either realizing that starring in two movie franchises based on '60 spies shows was a bad idea or that he'd have to spend an entire movie with 6'5" Armie Hammer towering over him, Tom Cruise has reportedly detached himself from starring in The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Deadline claims Cruise has opted to step away from the film to focus on starring in and producing Mission: Impossible V for Paramount instead. Both that and U.N.C.L.E. are eying fall starts so the juggling act proved too much for Cruise.

Warner Bros. will immediately try to recast Cruise's role, that of secret agent Napoleon Solo to Hammer's Illya Kuryakin; they're operatives for the United Network Command for Law & Enforcement. Guy Ritchie will direct The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

The studio's long tried to make this particular TV-to-film adaptation happen, originally setting George Clooney to star and Steven Soderbergh to direct until Clooney dropped out.
