App Store Update: January 17

Every day hundreds of new apps make their debut on the App Store, and hundreds more are updated or reduced in price. We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention.

Game Debuts

Infestor – ($0.99)

It’s a big day for new releases in the App Store, and we’re kicking off today’s list with the latest from Ravenous Games (the makers of League of Evil). Infestor is a new puzzle platformer that casts you as some kind of human-possessing slug. It’s up to you to attach yourself to the heads of different humans and use your infected hosts’ unique abilities to clear each level.

Temple Run 2 – (Freemium)

There have been a lot of clones and spin-offs of Temple Run throughout the past year, but never an official numbered sequel. It’s now arrived. Get runnin’!

Lode Runner Classic – ($2.99)

Then, on the other side of the “running” spectrum, here’s a vintage hit from yesteryear.

Riven for iPad – ($5.99)

Not quite as old as Lode Runner – but still a yesteryear hit – Riven: The Sequel to Myst is now available in an all-new iPad edition.

Final Fantasy: All the Bravest – ($3.99)

This game is not good. Don’t buy it. We’re putting it into the ASU here just to acknowledge that it’s a thing that exists, not because we’re recommending you actually support its existence. It’s bad. Justin’s Twitter will tell you more.

Gunslugs – ($1.99)

The world’s fastest and most frantic slugs have arrived, and they’re heavily armed.

Tin Man Can – ($0.99)

Chillingo’s latest gives you a running robot and plenty of colorful environments to guide him through.

Rocket Island – ($0.99)

Less than a buck for a new board game with a hexagonal grid design and steampunk theme. Sold!

Momonga Pinball Adventures – ($0.99)

Lastly, a flying squirrel invites you to experience a different kind of pinball game.

Price Drops

Angry Birds Rio – (Free)

Can you believe Angry Birds Rio has never once gone free before? It’s true – and it probably won’t happen again for a long, long time, so grab it quickly right now.

Kiko: The Last Totem – (Free)

And just in case you’ve already aced Angry Birds Rio, here’s another freebie for ya.

That’s it for today! The New Year is still young, so make a New Year’s resolution to not miss a single ASU all year – and help yourself succeed by subscribing to the App Store Update via email.
