After the way Batman #15 ended last month (not to mention its stellar reference to Batman: Arkham Asylum), I’m fairly certain that only utter insanity awaits us inside the Asylum. This is what the Death of the Family story has been building to – Batman’s homecoming. Of course, that homecoming is being thrown by the Joker, so one can only imagine what kind of terrors are in store for the Dark Knight.
Snyder has said on multiple occasions that #16 and #17 are his craziest issues of the series thus far. Based on what’s already happened, I’d say that’s setting a pretty high standard. Can’t wait!
Every issue of Mark Waid and Chris Samnee’s Daredevil is, at its worst, great. But now that Superior Spider-Man #1 has come and gone, it’s time to see the new web-slinger interact with the heroes of the Marvel Universe. Technically, Superior Spidey’s first appearance was in a previous issue of Daredevil, so it’s fitting that his story should continue here.
Given Daredevil’s penchant for knowing when somebody is lying based on their heart beat, could he be the first to catch onto Otto’s big secret? Considering no one has really seemed to notice that Peter Parker is acting a bit… different lately, here’s hoping that Matt Murdock gets to be the first.
I’ve said before that I’m not typically a huge Wolverine fan, but Marvel’s certainly been working diligently to change my mind these past couple of years. Their latest successful attempt at deepening my like for Logan is Wolverine MAX, which has been giving the MAX version of the character an intriguing origin tale that is true to the character without feeling like a retread. Plus, it takes advantage of the stand-alone MAX universe beyond simply adding a bunch of f-bombs.
If you’re looking for Wolverine stories without the fat of the rest of the X-Universe, this is the book for you.
No doubt about it, Francesco Francavilla is one of my favorite artists working in comics today. From his stellar work on Batman: The Black Mirror to his stint on Captain American and Bucky and even his sweet Breaking Bad posters, I enjoy his pulp style something fierce. At long last, he’s bringing his artistic (and writing) talents to Dark Horse with the creator-owned Black Beetle, a new age pulp hero. The art alone would be reason enough to pick up the book, but luckily the issue #0 that came out a few weeks back showed how viable a storyteller he is in all respects.
The solicitation text for this issue promises that “The Will finally has a good day.” Somehow, that makes me think that the complete opposite will be true. Or, judging by The Stalk’s appearance on the cover, this will be a flashback issue that shows the freelancing couple at a happier time in their lives.
Whatever the case, rest assured that Saga #9 will be another satisfactory installment in the hit Image series. If you’re still not reading Saga, shame on you.
