Star Trek Costume Designer Joins Star Wars VII Crew

Michael Kaplan, the man behind Star Trek Into Darkness' distinctive costume designs, has revealed that he's joined the production crew of Disney's forthcoming Star Wars sequel.

Talking with Buzzfeed, the famed designer whose credits include Blade Runner, Star Trek (2009), and Fight Club, explained: "I’ve just learned I’ll be working on the new Star Wars movie, again with J.J. Everything just got formalized [last week], I haven’t even had the chance to talk to anyone about it all other than to be told ‘welcome aboard.’

It’s a little too soon to know exactly what’s in store but I’m excited, absolutely, to get to work on another prestigious sci-fi series.”

In case you need reminding of Kaplan's work...

If, like us, you're a big fan of Star Trek's stylish costumes, then this is very welcome news indeed - you can read more about Kaplan's design process in this great interview on Clothes On Film.

Star Wars VII is due in cinemas summer 2015, with JJ Abrams set to direct with a script from Toy Story 3's Michael Arndt.

Tom is IGN's UK Social Media Editor, who really wants a formal Starfleet Academy uniform. You can stay abreast of his current pet peeves by following him on IGN and Twitter.
