Dominic Cooper to Play Ian Fleming

Dominic Cooper has signed up to play James Bond creator Ian Fleming in a forthcoming four-part mini-series.

According to Variety, the show will be set during WWII “when the maverick and hedonistic Fleming was hired by British Naval intelligence as part of its undercover campaign against the Nazis.”

Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger.

It was these experiences that inspired Fleming to write the first Bond novel Casino Royale in 1953, and the rest is history.

Cooper played the young Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger, while he also starred in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, The Devil’s Double and The History Boys.

Speaking of the role, the British actor said: “Stepping into the shoes of the spy who not only created the enigmatic character of 007, but who also fantasized about being him has to be every actor’s dream.”

The biopic – provisionally titled Fleming – will shoot in the UK and Budapest and air on Sky Atlantic this year, although there’s no word yet regarding international rights.
