Bedlam #2 Review

The first issue of Bedlam was interesting. It set up a great idea and seemed like it was heading in an exciting direction. The artwork was beautiful with its splendid use of the color red. Sure, it was way too talky and a little too long, but it was a good book because it had potential. It may not have capitalized on that potential in the first issue, but it was headed in the right direction. Well, the second issue is here and it falls so hard and so fast that any potential this series had is buried deep in a crater of its own making. This is just bad.

Nick Spencer needs to be edited here. Scenes go on for too long. People talk too much. Whatever this book is trying be, it needs to get there. This issue just drags. It's boring, slow, and does almost nothing to move the plot forward. Worst of all, it feels so self important. The book feels preachy in all the worst ways. This is squandered potential at its finest.

Riley Rossmo's art falls flat here to. Perhaps it's the lack of anything interesting to draw. Perhaps it's the uninspired color work. Or maybe it was just an off day. Whatever the case, the book looks bland. There are one or two pages that feature some cool imagery, but that's it. Most of the pages, like this book in general, just feel like a waste of time.

Last night, Darth Vader came down from Planet Vulcan and told Benjamin that if he didn't take Lorraine out, he'd melt his brain. Follow Benjamin on Twitter @616Earth, or find him on IGN.
