Is This Beyond: Two Souls’ Release Date?

Update: The website for Beyond: Two Souls has since been updated to read "2013". However, you can see the screencap of the original page in the original story below.

With the exception perhaps of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, no PlayStation 3 exclusive is more eagerly awaited than Beyond: Two Souls, the unrelated follow-up to Quantic Dream’s surprise smash-hit Heavy Rain. And, thanks to an IGN reader known simply as John, we may have stumbled upon its release date, at least in North America.

John e-mailed IGN PlayStation to inform us that Beyond: Two Souls’ official page on the PlayStation website has a release date. It’s marked for release on May 25, 2013, and you can see a screencap of the information below.

Now, there’s something strange about this release date. Games are typically released on Tuesdays in North America, but May 25, 2013 is a Saturday. So this could be a placeholder anticipating a more specific and exact release date, although it would be a rather strange placeholder, as we’re more accustomed to seeing quarter-specific dates (like April 1st or June 1st) to denote general release timeframes.

The Beyond: Two Souls website on PlayStation.com also tells us that the maximum number of players in the game is one, that there’s no online component, and that the game isn’t 3D compatible. It’s also been rated M for Mature. This information is a hodgepodge of things we already knew and things we didn’t.

We’ve reached out to Sony for comment and clarification, and we’ll update when we hear back.
