Warner Bros. Begins the Search for the New Wonder Woman for The CW's Amazon

We hadn’t heard much about Amazon since The CW’s potential new Wonder Woman TV series was said to be in development back in early September. But now, EW.com is reporting there is some notable movement taking place, with Warner Bros., the studio behind the project, getting ready to look for who will play Wonder Woman herself. The studio has hired a casting director and will soon be sending out a casting notice for the lead role.

As EW notes, this is highly unorthodox, given Amazon doesn’t even have an official pilot order at The CW yet, thus it’s not even clear it will be produced. EW speculates that perhaps it’s that, in this case, so much hinges on the lead role that the network and studio wish to see some candidates before making any final decisions on moving forward – though on the other hand, maybe it’s simply so likely there will be a pilot, they are just getting a jump on the inevitable. Certainly, the success of Arrow -- The CW’s biggest success since The Vampire Diaries -- can only help fuel the possibility of more DC Comics heroes on The CW.

Amazon is fashioned as an origin story for Wonder Woman, in the tradition of Smallville, focusing on the teenage years of Diana before she takes on her superhero moniker.

Allan Heinberg, a writer with experience both on TV (The O.C., Grey’s Anatomy) and in comics (Young Avengers, JLA, and yes, Wonder Woman) is writing and executive producing Amazon.
